J&K to have its own IPL team: Governor

Governor Satya Pal Malik said his administration was working on the idea of having the state’s own IPL team. He said IPL matches would be played here once new cricket stadiums were approved.

He made these comments at the felicitation ceremony of “Chinar Youth Festival — Hunar-e-Kashmir” organised by the Army at Sher-i-Kashmir Convention Centre, here this evening. He said only the youth were relevant in Kashmir.

“If we give attention to the youth and understand their issues, anger, needs and assure them that we are with them, then the Kashmir issue will be resolved,” he said. “I find that after 6 pm, children here don’t get anything to do. There are no coffee shops, cinema halls and playgrounds in Kashmir.”

Malik noted that the future of J&K was with the youth who can exhibit extraordinary talent in arena of sports, studies, and extracurricular activities at national and international levels.

“Noticing the passion for sports among the youth here, the government is making every effort to strengthen the sports infrastructure and very soon the state will have international-level stadiums of football and cricket.

My administration is working on the idea of having state’s own IPL team and IPL matches will be played here once new cricket stadiums are approved by experts,” he said while addressing the function.

The strife-torn Kashmir has a reason to celebrate as J&K is working to have its own team in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
